Job Description - What you will do:
Conduct spawning surveys for Chinook salmon to monitor runs of this iconic fish in the Sandy River.
Work independently and outdoors in exposed locations.
Requires wading in swift and rocky rivers; some boating on rivers with technical whitewater.
Driving between sampling sites is required; a state vehicle will be provided.
Surveyors will need to recover salmon carcasses and sample them for length, scales, tags and fin clips.
Surveyors will need to identify and count salmon redds (nests in the gravel).
Surveyors are expected accurately enter data into forms on tablets, checking and uploading data at the end of each day.
Lifting of fish, boats, and equipment up to 35 lbs.

The work schedule most weeks will be 10-hour days Monday - Thursday.
However, these positions require working long days on a flexible schedule that can vary in the number of hours worked on a daily basis, but not necessarily each day, or a work schedule in which the starting and stopping times may vary on a daily basis.

Minimum qualifications are not established for these positions; however, we are seeking applicants with the following related skills and experience (e.
g.
, wading rivers for fish or habitat surveys, boating on swift water, sampling adult salmon, marking salmon redds, identifying salmon species, collecting and accurately recording field data, computer skills) and who possess or are in pursuit of a Fisheries or Wildlife Science degree or related degree in biological/ecological sciences.
Preference for interviews may be given to candidates with this background.
Criminal Records/DMV Check Applicants are subject to both a criminal history and motor vehicles check.
Driving is required for all positions.
Out-of-state finalists will be required to present a current certified or uncertified driving record for review to be considered for the position.
Be prepared to obtain as soon as possible.
You are expected to provide the out-of-state driving record before an offer can be made unless extenuating circumstances exist.
