## Job Description
The Portland Division''s Workers Compensation/Risk Management Department located in Clackamas, Oregon has an opening for a Claims Examiner.
Qualifications: The following are preferred or desired unless specifically stated:
4 year college degree or equivalent professional experience.
Oregon Certified Claims Examiner with minimum 3 years experience.
Washington Certification and experience
Knowledge of Oregon and Washington Workers'' Compensation statues, medical terminology, treatment protocol, PD rating system, litigation, and vocational rehabilitation.
Problem solving, decision making, and negotiation skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Able to work independently and within a team, maintain a diary system, handle multiple assignments, set priorities, organize, and meet deadlines.
Good interpersonal skills with strong customer focus.
Computer knowledge of Microsoft Professional, Outlook, and automated claims system experience.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Apply case management skills designated to avoid and equitably resolve litigation.
Work with injured workers and physicians to aid in the return from modified work to full work duties.
Investigate claims, evaluate exposure, and determine whether benefits are payable.
Provide authorization and direct activities of outside investigators, nurse case managers and legal counsel.
Daily data entry updates, maintenance of diary system, and monitor computer reports for accuracy.
Authorize, control, and process medical treatment and work with multiple MCO''s to manage medical costs.
Utilize Plan of Action analysis form to outline course of action /case handling to appropriate claim closure.
Working with a paperless claims system.
Communicate and interact with injured workers, attorneys, physicians, vendors, disability evaluation bureau, facility management, Division and Corporate Office personnel.
Negotiate settlements with attorneys and injured workers, and issue settlement benefits as approved by the departments.
Respond to various administrative inquires from the DCBS and L&I; Departments.
Participate in developing and implementing company, department and individual goals.
Participate in store and district meetings to train store personnel on loss control and claim management procedures.
Comply with internal and external guidelines to positively impact team and individual performance.
Perform other duties as assigned.

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
